INTRO (WHAT IS B2E)?

Bridge to Employment (B2E) is a 3 year programme (Year 11 – 13) that empowers you to take ownership of your education and life after high school with the support of mentors, education and career experts.  This is done through fortnightly workshops, AUT campus visits and classes, community experience days.  This programme is provided free to the young people / students.

B2E inspires young people (14–18 year olds) to stay in school, excel academically, broaden and elevate their career aspirations.

B2E helps you to build solid futures and strives to:

  • Increase the number of students who enrol in higher education
  • Increase the number of students interested in pursuing the broad variety of health careers

Key focus areas
  • Academic Enrichment
  • Career Exploration & Readiness
  • Higher Education Preparation & Exploration

B2E is an international programme in its 26th year.  There are currently 18 programmes worldwide operating, with Auckland being the first New Zealand site.

What is mentoring?

Mentors are trained volunteers of good character, with no agenda except to connect one-on-one with a young person.  Like an older brother or sister, mentors are motivators, guides, supporters and sounding boards for young people to run their ideas past.  Mentors are non-judgemental, empathetic and pretty fun too.

In our B2E programme we call our mentors, navigators with a specific focus on providing support for young people’s journey with their education and future careers.

Structure

Mentoring will be delivered in a group setting with approximately two J&J employees to approximately 4 students. Mentoring sessions are held fortnightly (with a rotating roster of 2 navigator’s groups, making this a one a month commitment for each J&J navigator) during the school term (approximately 8 times per year).  The programme also involves off site activities that we would like J&J navigators to also be involved in where possible.
